New Artist: Errol Walsh

January 16, 2008

MP3s by top Irish singer-songwriter, Errol Walsh, are now available.

Born in County Derry, Northern Ireland, Errol emigrated to Canada in the late sixties and in the early seventies was to be found 'getting in touch with nature' on the Isle of Arran of the West Coast of Scotland. Eventually Errol returned to Ireland, moved to Dublin and began his adventures in Country, Blues and Americana.

Errol's first band after moving back to Ireland, "Stagalee", produced a hit single "Give A Little Love" and a busy touring schedule. After the breakup of Stagalee, Errol inherited a new band, "The Business", which included folk singer Mary Black and had recently backed Paul Brady on his first album, "Hard Station".

Errol's next move was to London, where he founded several bands featuring renowned players such as virtuoso guitarists Ed Deane and Steve Simpson and legendary pedal steel player B.J.Cole. This all lead to the Americana flavoured music of "Coyotes", whose first album, featuring Errol's songs and vocals, was voted 'Best Album Of The Year 1997' at the BBC televised 'British Country Music Awards'. That same year Errol travelled to Nashville where, along with some of Tennessee's finest session musicians, he recorded "Waltzin' In The Water". This album won the coveted 'Spirit Of Antrim' award for outstanding contributions to the Irish music industry at Northern Ireland's "Northern Lights Festival". Previous recipients of this award have included Brian Kennedy and the renowned Irish piper Liam O'Flynn.

Today, Errol has settled back in Northern Ireland where he continues writing and performing. His repertoire is filled with delightful stories of his travels and, as well as original compositions, he includes the works of other artists who have influenced his musical direction, such as Bob Dylan, John Prine, Steve Bruton, Jesse Winchester and Guy Clark, to name but a few.
